I’d love to win this spot girls! I draw constantly and have tons of fantastic material for surface design…I just don’t have the cash to sign up or the know how to create the patterns from my designs. I KNOW that you two could help with that, right? PICK ME!!
Carol Sloan, US
I’m inspired! I’m ready. I’m still blooming! Loved Flora’s online Bloom True online class and the Do What you Love class as well. I’ve have been painting and developing my style everyday. I love color and am the artist of my life. I’m ready to move forward! I’m a sponge. I know I’m meant to inspire and be inspired. I want to change the world one pattern/color at a time. I feel like this will give me the tools to take the next step. My journey has been awesome, and at times, challenging. I’m from the US but live in Abu Dhabi in the UAE. I’m honored to have this opportunity. You have opened windows and doors into myself and changed my life. Thank you. I am grateful.

after almost 15 years of being away from art to raise my children, I have begun my journey back to finding the artist within me. In the past few months I have begun searching for a style and a career for my art. I just completed Flora Bowley’s course and saw this course description on facebook. It sparked something inside me and so I know that this is something I need to persue. I love to sketch designs in my sketchbook. I carry a mini sketchbook in my pocketbook so when I am on line or at an appointment so I can create designs. Never knew it was something I could turn into a business. I would love to get a chance to learn about this as a business. Money is extremely tight right now. We just got hit by the hurricane and haven’t been able to work because power is out so no extra money for something like an online course. Would really love to win this!
Pam Varacek, USA
Hi there, I would love to do this course as since leaving Uni I have been working as a poorly paid admin assistant in an office. There is no way that this is a career I wish to persue. I hate every minute. I studied textile design at uni but I would love to refresh the basic in depth skills development, as we were not taught in such detail. I feel I lack business and industry knowledge to kick start a career in surface pattern design and I do not have the funds at the moment to develop the relevant skills. The business related modules would be of such benefit to me in realising my dream. I really want to persue a career in textile designing but I do not know where to start! Please help! Thanks Alison.
Alison Patheyjohns, UK
I need this course right now because I finally am ready to embrace my art. I have been drawing and creating since I was young but since my parents dreams of being artist were surpressed by their parents they surpressed mine. I wanted to go to art school but I was discouraged and told that business school is the only answer for me. So I listene to them just as they listened to their parents and I have been miserable ever since. Over the last few years I have been from job to job looking for something and I haven’t found it because its in the arts. I need this class like my soul needs love. I have been looking at this course for months and unfortunately because of my so called business career I was Laid off at the end of June. So this course for me is not financially feasible. If you pick me I know this will change my life because textile is what I live for and it insipires me. I will gain the knowledge that i need to go forward with design. I will get a kick start to a new life that I have always wanted as a textile designer. Thank you for this opportunity to apply

I would love to take this course! This is an area I am VERY interested in. I took Flora’s Bloom True class and learned so much. I’m sure that this class would be amazing as well. Thank you for your consideration.

This course looks incredible–I’m especially drawn to working with color and learning how to design a pattern. I would love to join you!

Boy, would I love to win a place in this course! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I’ve been looking at this course, actually at this series of courses for a year or so but haven’t been able to due to the cost and other obligations. Now I have time (still not the $) and would love to have a shot at it. I’m a painter, collage-ist, make my own stamps for fabric and paper, and am intrigued by patterns in nature. It seems such a great fit! Whether I win or not, thanks for offering someone the chance.

Wow, this is really exciting! I have been wanting to take this course for awhile. Thanks for the opportunity!
Kyrrha Sevco
I would love to win this because at the moment i am studying btec national diploma in fashion and textiles, and we do a lesson in surface pattern which i love and im hoping to go uni next year and get a degree in surface pattern, this would really really help get me in the surface pattern desigb group,

Hello! I would absolutely love to win, I have already signed up and cannot wait to start! I actually didn’t have the money to start the course in November, but when I saw that Module 1 didn’t start again until April 2013 I decided I couldn’t wait that long! So I sold most of my lovely clothes and shoes on eBay to raise the money! so please pick me so I can buy my clothes back
But on a serious note, I am a very creative, passionate designer, I’ve designed shoes, accessories, and currently design jewellery boxes, but I really feel like my true calling is in surface pattern design. I love to draw, and I don’t get to do enough of it at work. I’d love to make my hobby my new career and I feel that this course will give me the courage to go out there and do it!
Thank you!
Aimee Graham, UK
I would love the opportunity to learn how to turn the elements of mixed media painting into a pattern and of course there is nothing like the support of a community of other artists inspiring one another!!!!
Thanks!!

Would love to try this! Put my doodles to better use.
Thanks

Wow, this would be so cool to win right now! I am in the middle of writing a business plan for my new fabric printing venture and I don’t know how to actually make money, so as a plan it has a few holes in it to say the least. I have always had a love for art and surface pattern but didn’t know how to monetise that passion and continued to work in dead end jobs that made me feel like my soul was shrivelling up. I have promised myself I will never go back to a miserable job and I feel now is the time to make my talent work for me. I don’t expect to make a fortune, I just want to do something I enjoy and be financially independent, as I have been looking for work for over 6 months now and I realise I have to create my own job! I am really interested in taking this course as it seems that it would answer so many questions I have about the industry. I have just about enough money to start and print up fabrics from my own designs. However, I need the insider expert knowledge which Rachel is so generously sharing. I came very close to signing up a couple of months ago but I had to make a choice between this course and buying materials/studio time, which is very frustrating as I have been following the stories of previous students and I really want to be a part of it and meet other pattern mad designers! I think it looks fantastic and if I don’t win I will be saving up for next year. BUT – I want to do it now – I can’t wait!!!
Isabel Howlett, UK
I have always wanted to see my work on products and fabric but only recently begun following the breadcrumb trail to surface design as a way to do it. I’ve purchased books on licensing, done Kelly Rae’s Flying lessons, and have been working daily on my art, but this is the first course I’ve seen that gets right into creating patterns and the meat and potatoes of actually getting the work prepared to begin. I’d love to take this course…have actually been wishing for a chance to take it, just out of money for classes at the moment. Thanks for giving away a spot to one lucky person! ♥
Shelly Penko, USA
I would love to win this. I have never done this, but of all of the forms of art, I think this one would be me.
Connie USA
This is exactly what I need, at exactly the right time! I have retailers selling my artwork and lampshades at the moment who are desperate for me to provide them with a range of homewares using fabric printed with my own designs, plus an off the peg range of lampshades (a tthe moment I make all my lampshades to commission). I have been researching how to go about doing this for the past few months and not getting very far! My main issue is how to deal with gettig my images from the drawing board to a ready to print format, and then how and where to get them printed – I don;t know anything about types of fabric either!
I set up in business at the beginning of the year, am entirely self taught so far, and really could do with a little bit of proper training and guidance as I never had the opportunity to go to study this subject at university and as I am a single parent, the options for going back to art college are somewhat limited where I live.
Goodness – what an opportunity – would be sincerely grateful for consideration for the place.
Naomi McIndoe, UK
What a lovely idea! I have really wanted to take this course ever since it began and have had my eyes on it. I have been told that I paint patterns but have no idea how to convert this to be used in surface pattern design. I’m waiting to take the course when it fits into our budget–right now it is on my dream list as we have school tuition for our kids to worry about! But, I hope to someday take it–if it is meant to be now I’m hoping that I’m the lucky winner! This is so very generous of you, and I know you will serendipitously pick whoever was meant to join this class. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the work that has come out of the class–very inspiring! Keep up the good work!!!! XO, Carrie
I would absolutely LOVE to win this! I have recently completed Modules 2 & 3 of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design, but can’t afford to do the first one just yet. It would be brilliant if I didn’t have to wait until next year to do it and would feel like I have completed the course in it’s entirety
. I would love to look at the areas in detail- like working with colour and how to build a pattern. I am also re-addressing my whole brand so it would be great to go back and look at how a new brand could reflect my signature style. I’m actually getting excited just reading it all again. I want to be completely prepared for all the fun challenges that lie ahead of me in my surface pattern design career
Lily Reilly, Germany
This course is just what I need at this point in my art career. I have spent way too much time self doubting from years in art school. It was my demise. Now, at a much later point in my life, I am eagerly learning as much as I can to counteract all of that. Flora’s class in February was a huge boost and I am gaining momentum. I want to learn everything I possibly can now that I am finally “blooming”!! Please, pick me! pick me!! Was that too much?
Lindi Stevenson, US
Well, this has been on my Mondo Beyondo list since I did Hello Soul, Hello Business. It was reading the lessons there that made me realises “doodling” is a career option! This coupled with the fact that I learnt tonnes from Beth on that course and I met Rachel at Top Drawer in London this year , you’re my kind of people! it is the perfect course to turn dreaming about doing what I love into actually doing it!!
Felicia Thomas, Ireland
I’ve been wanting to take this course but it’s not in our budget right now. I’m a mixed media artist and have had a lot of feedback about how my work would work well on fabric. I would love to learn how to do this and to open up more options for my work.
Tammy Olson, US
I dream of taking this fantastic course!!! It’s all what I been wishing long time ago, I know that I have a lot of talent and I can become a marvelous Illustrator if I follow the right steps. My goal is to launch my own brand with my illustrations but before that I need to study more and unfortunately in my country we don’t have these kinds of courses and it can’t be an obstacle to develop my abilities and reach the level I’m sure I can have. Thanks a lot for this opportunity, loveeee The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design!!!
Carolina Villalobos, Colombia
It would really benefit me and my future career if I were to win a place on this course. Having just finished university this summer, I’m extremely low on cash because, as we all know, university is incredibly expensive! I’ve had to drop into a part time job just to find myself money to survive, and leave my textiles behind. A very sad time after studying for two years! I’m trying to save any money I can to start up my own textile brand and hopefully start to make some money doing something I truly love. Not being able to afford to do this amazing course is heartbreaking – especially when I follow so many of your students and graduates on twitter!

I have been following Do What You Love for some time now and I find so much inspiration in what your blog has to say!! I am an unemployed teacher who is a single mom and loves to be CrEaTiVe! I have taken this time to really think about what it is I love and how I can use this time to really figure out what it is I love to do!! I love color and pattern and doodling….always have and I think this class, (which I have considered taking in the past but due to lack of monies put on a wish list….) would be a great fit for me!! So I am taking a chance!!! : ) Thank you for this opportunity!!

What a generous opportunity! Thank you! Winning a spot in the module 1 would be a dream. I honestly cannot afford the cost, at the moment, and that is the only reason I am not registered. so, winning a spot would offer me the opportunity to learn about surface pattern design and how can turn my photos, sketches, and art into pattern. Thank you again,
Lori Moon, USA(NYC)
I would love to win this for my very talented daughter. She is so amazing and this class would really help her learn what she needs to know to take her talent to the next level!
Janet Higley
I have a music line of artwork, I have been wanting to learn about patterns and surface design so I can finally design a really great variety of nursery and kids rooms decor, sheets, etc in a fun music pattern. There are so many music lovers out there and too few choices for them to bring that love into their kids rooms.
Noelle Rollins, USA
What a downright lovely giveaway… I have wanted to explore further ways to expand on my love for color and mixed media with surface pattern design and it has seemed so out of reach before and I have not known where to start, this course looks perfect! Thank you so much for the opportunity to enter to win!

this course would definitely help me push ahead in the next stage of my career and give me the confidence to move into other areas.
Keeping my fingers crossed!

I have only recently discovered this online community through Flora Bowley’s Bloom True class and I must say that already it has changed my life. I was an artist before, with a BFA and a minor in illustration, but was completely at a loss with how to proceed. My degrees were for nothing and I was making less and less art. I am now painting with joy, and know that this is all I want to do with my life. A few commissions later and I am on my way.
My illustrative style has always been very graphic, lots of pattern, and I cannot count the times I have been told my designs should be on notecards, fabric, shower curtains, etc. I am finally ready to try. This class sounds wonderful for teaching me the practicals of how to get my designs realized and into the hands of others who could produce them into marketable products. This is exactly what I need to move forward. This online community is changing my life.
Amy Zimmerman, USA
This would be perfect. I just finished the Bloom True class and I am having a blast painting. I would love to add the experience from this class to my creativity process.
Angie Jones, USA
What a great opportunity. This would be such an amazing gift to win. As a stay at home mom to a small 6 month old baby girl, I’ve been struggling lately with the loss of my creative self. As a full time designer in the arts field, I spent countless years dedicating my life and career to the arts. When my husband and I found out we were expecting, I gave my career up to stay at home and raise my daughter. Its been the best decision I ever made. Watching her grow everyday has been more than I could have imagined. But I can’t deny the tug at my pant legs from that creative life that was once what craved my attention.
This chance will give me a chance to dip my feet back into the world of art and keep my talent sharp. When my little one starts school, I hope to continue my love for all things design.
At a time when all of my clothes are covered in spit up, I can’t remember when I showered last, and I haven’t had an adult conversation or a moment for myself in months, I could really use this chance. Thank-you.
Jamie Reid, USA
Having never been exposed to a class like this, I would love to explore it’s possibilities. I’m ready to learn and hopefully win. Thanks!

This course would be wonderful to take and of course to win. Having this opportunity would provide me the kick I need to stop taking care of all the other pragmatic “stuff” that gets in my way and focus on producing creative design ideas. Your website and blogs have been very inspirational and all your courses are sooo enticing. Working with color, texture, pattern, collage, photography, painting, nature, in the context of home design … IS what I love.
Thanks for the positive energy you send to your community!

I would love to win a place on this course. I’ve been looking at it for a while now and think it would be prefect for me, especially at the moment. I have a (very) fledgling business which incorporates elements of surface pattern design, but my training in this area is limited (and was many years ago). I think this course is just what I need to move my business forward and to help me achieve my dream of finally quitting the day job and being able to do something I love!

I’m a Graphic Designer with many years experience, currently updating my stills in Fabric and Surface design. I love pattern! Currently I’m working on my portfolio that will help launch this new path in my creative career.
I’d love the opportunity to take Module 1 to help develop my style and branding. I’d also love to explore mix media. This course sounds just what I need!

I’m in the process of trying to be able to spend more time with my baby boy by having a vocation where I can work more independently. I just went back to work after maternity leave and I’m finding it difficult to spend much time with him. I know running my own business would mean I’d have to work more but I could work at different times. I’ve had a lot of experience working for other people and have always wanted to start my own business up because I feel really strongly about my textile designs and just need a bit of confidence on the marketing and business side of things. It’s all very well doing amazing designs but if no-one sees them the chances are you won’t get anywhere. I’m ready to make it work!!!
Laura Mysak
i’m hungry for this knowledge, and should i be graced with a free course,i will pass on a fee for someone else to learn when i am able.
Martha McCullough
Oh where were you 25 years ago when I came out of art college. Then we trogged round with our portfolios to small print-makers or kept our fingers crossed in the hope that a design house like Sanderson’s would take us under their wing to “develop” us into their latest designer.
Too few opportunities and too many of us looking. If the wonderful web and computers had been around then I am sure today I would not have taken my path to a job in banking and I would be doing “what I loved”
This is an opportunity for me to re-kindle all those fantastic feelings I had long ago when art and design made me feel like I had a proper soul.
There are so many good designers around today and they are so inspirational – I would love to be in that club.
Whether I win or not thanks for giving me another opportunity.

I am a great believer in the saying “everything happens for a reason!” I have a keen interest in illustration and I have been fortunate enough to complete a graphic design & illustration degree part time whilst also being a full time mum. Being a mum to two little ones doesnt always give me the time to push myself forward in the way I would like so I like to look for small courses I can do online. This led me to your website and from this I began to wonder about combining illustration for children with surface pattern design and if this could lead to bigger and better opportunities?! A stepping stone to the right career path.
To be honest I just don’t know where to really begin and this is one of those opportunities you just can’t ignore.
Good luck to everyone.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to win the cost of Module 1. I have already signed up for the course but it will be a real financial strain so it would be great if I won. I felt I HAD to sign up or I would also wonder “what if”. I finished a Diploma in Art and Design this year and absolutely loved experimenting with surface pattern design. I learnt so much but also realise how much more I need to learn to try and make it into a business. Having read the course content and from following Rachael’s inspirational blog I knew it sounded like the perfect course for me and I can’t wait to start!
Ann Marchant
Why do I want to do this course- because it looks super fabulous and very comprehensive, and if the quality of production is anything like the Bloom True course, then it will be another course not to be missed. To win a spot would be such an honour and gift. Thank you for the opportunity.

I’m a fine art and multimedia major in my final year working on my multimedia thesis, and all I can think about is patterns, and fabrics and textiles and getting a surface design business started as soon as I graduate this spring! I’m incorporating my passion for patterning into my thesis but this opportunity would give me so much more amazing knowledge into what I’m so passionate about. Oh my gosh. While in school, I discovered my love for surface pattern design, but because of the program I’m in there are no specific classes in it so everything I know is self taught. All I do is constantly research schools and programs in surface pattern design, and this online course, is the perfect fit! So glad I found you!
I’m busting with excitement right now just thinking about taking this module!
Sincerely pattern obsessed,

There is so much good coming at me right now I have to be really grateful for all of it. But I found the Print & Pattern book by chance, fell upon all of this and suddenly everything made sense. This is the path I need to follow and an opportunity to take this workshop would be a dream come true!

What an amazing and generous opportunity! I was just here on this site a few days ago wishing I could fit all three of the classes into my budget!! Asking the universe very clearly for this!!! Thank you!!!

Wow, a spot in the class would be great! I have been a stay at home Mom for over 7 years and my kids are now teenagers. I am at a time in my life where it is time to look at what I want to do. My career was in accounting before I became a stay at home Mom, however I do not think I will ever return to that career. I have been creative all my life and have a dream of using my art in a career. I love mixed media art and would love to learn how to turn my creativity into surface design. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I have a saying…”If you never, never, go – you never, never know”. I’m 41 years old and I’ve finally found my passion through pattern and design…I don’t want to wake up in 20 years time to find out I “never, ever went”. There are a lot of amazing, talented, people out there who are equally deserving. It’s difficult to sit here and say “I”m more important or I’m more deserving than you are”. What I will say is that I spent my entire life trying to find my “thing”…trying to fit in…always the square peg in the round hole. My biggest hurdle remains my lack of confidence and self-belief that I’m ‘good enough’. After accidentally coming across Moyo magazine and The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design, I felt the most excited I had in a long time, and thought maybe, just maybe, my dreams weren’t so crazy after all
I know that The Art and Business of Surface Design will be the game changer…the missing link that can give me the confidence and professional know-how I need to follow my passion!

I learned about this course from my Creative Career Coach, Michelle Ward (the When-I-Grow-Up Coach). This opportunity comes at a star-aligned moment for me. The artist in me has been searching for a passion to nurture ever since I had to stop dancing almost twenty years ago. Nothing I have sought, or even imagined since has measured up to my creative dreams. But in the last eight weeks or so I have begun to live out of my artist-self: as I have painted, sewn, and explored my creativity in more depth my longtime love of pattern and fabrics keeps jumping up and grabbing my attention. I have looked at a number of surface pattern/textile design courses/books already. This course (and Module 1 in particular) appeals to me because of the initial emphasis on creating patterns that start from sketches, paintings, mixed-media works. I didn’t think this existed! And I am so excited to find it today! It is exactly the push I need, right now.
I would bring so much to this course: I approach new experiences with very few expectations. I think in ways that are novel and connect ideas other people typically do not. I have been developing my color sense and style since I was two. I care deeply. I thrive in cooperative environments and want to work with other people for a mutual/universal benefit. I am curious and willing to change my viewpoint and expand my experiences in big and small ways. I feel strong when using my creative eye to play with colors and patterns, coordinate fabrics, make designs to create a visual picture.
Thank you for the opportunity! I look forward to learning more.

I’ve been dreaming of being an artist for the last 20 years. No formal training (we didn’t have art at our little country high school), but lots of doodling and experimenting on my own.
And now I’m ready to meet my artist self full-time. Only – what kind of artist am I?
I’m solving the mystery by following the bread-crumb-trail of what interests and excites me. Surface Pattern Design is my first breadcrumb towards a new artistic life.
And 7th November is my birthday. So come on, Universe! Make my day!
Thanks so much for the opportunity

Wow what a fab offer! I have been wanting to do this course for some time now but not had the opportunity due to not having the funds.
However I have pulled together the money to do the full course right up to April next year and will be signing up in the next few days.
To win the first module free would be a great help and an honor.
I have been drawing since I was little as I’m sure many designers do, I took a surface pattern course at Leeds collage, and since graduating have wanted to break into the surface pattern design market for my self.
Unfortunately I lack business experience and the know how to find and utillise contacts. I feel this course would benefit many design led university courses as an option if desired, its the only thing I would change about the course I did.
I am looking forward to starting this course and finally pursuing my career with a great supportive network behind me.

I would love to take this course! I am a fashion designer and after years working through extremely stressful jobs which sucked the joy from my life I was left with depression. I have worked hard to overcome this and decided to change my life for the better by doing what I love. Your website has been a fantastic inspiration professionally and personally. I’m currently starting up my own design and textiles business, and doing this course would help me expand and develop my real passion for textiles. Being a new business cash flow is hard so I thought I would have to wait at least a year to make the money to undertake ths course, winning this module would mean I can start my dreams that much sooner and would mean the world to me.

I wanted to do this course first time round but couldn’t. I would LOVE to do it now. I am still trying to find my place and voice and am wanting to move away from straight painting to something I can use more commercially but I don’t know how. This course would be amazing to take. Thanks for giving a lucky someone this chance. Fingers crossed ! x

My name is Julie Dubicz. I live in the United States of America in Hawaii! I’ve spent thirteen of my adult years taking college classes (eleven in the Arts) and am jonesin’ for your class as it’s been a half a dozen years since my last one! When I was a little girl I used to draw particular designs and still love and use them. I have been really wanting to return to class and am beyond ready! My need to create is for joy, fulfillment, pleasure and to share my ideas with others. I welcome the great opportunity!:)

What an amazing opportunity ! thank you so much for being so generous.
I’ve wanted to be a part of this course ever since I laid my eyes on it + it was the time I knew I was meant to do surface design. My artistic visions have never been more clearer to me. Up until I figured my path, it felt like I was walking around in a haze. I have been lucky enough to have secured 2 licensing deals and have some potential opportunities.
But I’ve wanted to know more about the path that I see myself headed . I would love to have a better understanding of whats expected of a surface designer from a client / manufacturer’s point of view. I would love to learn more about what the industry holds and the market needs. Above all, it would be such an amazing opportunity to be learning from surface designers who are passionate about what they do and to get the support of other designers.I know this will be a great way to make new friendships and relationships.
Good luck to everyone

I love being creative, love colour, love pattern n just want the chance to learn how to put it all together. Creating artwork just takes me away from everything and I can soak my mind in the canvas , working with the paint n brushes in an almost dreamy way.
I would love this opportunity to put all my experience and love for pattern into action learning how to create pieces that can be utilised for purposes other than flat objects. I design, pattern cut and make up handbags, haberdashery and clothing, so to be able to do the whole kit n caboodle would mean I am a one woman creative ha ha.
Just wish I could flow with writing this please please in a way that I could if I painted it as my Brain ain’t working in the creative way I would like it to ha ha..
So all I can say is u would make me the happiest ever if I could take part in this course n let my mind wander further and allow me to show the world that individuality and well thought out design is the best xxxxx

The course looks fantastic. I am convinced that learning is a life time thing..I want to learn how to express myself creatively with colour and design with experts who can inspire me to be better and bolder. I find that there is a part of my that is magnetically pulled towards design, I have started looking at everything with a fresh perspective, the colour, the pattern, the shape and form of anything from a humble paper cup to elaborate textiles. I have just finished an academic course but really want something to move the creative side of me. Winning would be brilliant for whoever wins this prize. Many thanks for reading.

Wow! This would be the most perfect timing for me to take this course. I’ve just started on a year’s project called ‘Love What You Wear’ where by I’m not buying any new clothes for a year. Rather making from scratch, re-purpose what I have or buy second hand. I’m keen for other people to join in – and so far there are 18 of us!
I would LOVE to be able to add my own pattern designs to what I make. And this would also help me to expand my very very new business using upcycled materials. It would simply be amazing to win a place on your course.
ps my handmade bags carry the message ‘Do What You Love’

I would love this soooo much! I have just closed my webshop (where I sold fabric presents for little kids I designed myself) to find out what I really would love to do. I have always been fascinated by surface-design and I am trying to teach myself right now reading all kind of tutorials I find on the web. Would be awesome if I could learn it this way! Timing is absolutely perfect!
Have a nice weekend!

I’m already signed up and have been for some time! I have been anxiously awaiting for the start of class. This is something I have dreamed of doing for at least a decade now! I think it is about time. I am looking for this to give me the jump start I’ve been needing! Can’t wait. Shelby Oliphant, US
I am so excited about this opportunity! I look at the course constantly but am intimidated solely by the price (course price is fair, just my current circumstances.)
I do dream of licensing my own designs. I need this right now because I feel like I am feeling somewhat stunted, I crave a community of creatives and something new to work on. Many aspects of this course excite me, when I look over the list of whats offered, an enthusiastic YES! is what I feel.
What I hope to get from this course is a new skill set, a new outlook on my business, new creative energy, new creative friends, and my dream of being in Dwell magazine answered.
Thank you!

Growing up, I always wanted to be that someone that painted gorgeous images on plates, pillows, mugs, fabrics, etc, etc….I just never knew how to get there.
I even went to school for graphic design, but not once did I ever hear about an option to be a Surface Pattern Designer….
But then….
I took Hello Soul, Hello Business.
WOW-what a life changer! Not only was I exposed to all sorts goodness that you can’t find in a regular classroom….but I FINALLY learned about “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design”! I still can’t believe there’s a name to what I’ve always longed to be
. What A dream come true just to discover this…..
Unfortunately, the past few years have been a little tough financially…so I’m saving up until next spring to take this class….
However….
if it’s possible to win this contest and get into this uber amazing, knowledge filled class this month….I would be over the moon GRATEFUL and THRILLED!
THANK YOU!

Hi, my name is Camille Condon and I’m from Melbourne, Australia.
Thanks so much for the opportunity of having a chance to win a place in Module 1 of The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design. I would really love to be lucky enough to win!
I’ve been on the waiting list for a double lung transplant for over 14 months now, and I’ve been using my time teaching myself how use Adobe Illustrator while also trying to improve my Photoshop skills. I’m very limited with what I can do outside of my home, so a course that I can work on while I’m at home is absolutely perfect.
I’m totally and utterly addicted to fabric, so I would use my newly learned skills to create a new fabric and homewares line.
Camille Condon, Australia
Do you know that secret place in your soul that connects to everything through your fingers, eyes, heart, and sixth sense? Surface design and textiles have been that quite secret and indulgent love of my most private self. I dream of textiles at night–for years, and when I was in college, I was intrigued by a Swiss Textiles major who I often saw in the Art and Design building where I worked as a nude model. She led my dream life. I was not sure how I could make the world glide together into the wonderland of colors, shapes, textures, flow, and beauty out of the bumpy typography that I was in. To feed my soul with all of this wonder, I frequent thrift stores, antique malls, fabric stores, and shops.
I would love an opportunity to actually study and experience this medium. It would be simply wonderful and I’d be forever thankful!

Wow – The thought of being able to start this course in November would out of this world!
My two daughters are at that age now that gives me the chance to do something for myself. Creating is all I want to do!
The fire in my belly has definitely been ignited by you guys and I would love it to burn. burn and burn some more!!!
Michelle Turner, UK
I have been wanting to take this class for a long time and just can’t afford it. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make it happen…to “just do it”, but it’s really not possible at the moment. My family is going through a difficult time financially and I am at a point in my life where I need to reinvent myself and make sure I’m doing what I love for my work and expression rather than just filling in the gaps for others. I feel from everything I see about this class that it would help me to learn and develop skills I so desire not to mention the lovely community the class inspires. Thank you for the opportunity and for the wonderful classes you’ve all put together!

How could I NOT want to win the chance to join this course – like many of the other would-be winners I have been looking at it, and drooling over the work the designers produce, for over a year. I’ve never dared think of myself of an artist, but am constantly drawn to blogs and sites and people who are. I took the bold (for me) step of joining Flora’s bloomer’s course, and though I’m late I am just beginning to see the embryo of a painting on the canvas. So I’m dreaming big, and dreaming of winning this prize!
Karen Ray, France
This course is exactly what I’ve been looking for! After taking Kelly Rae Roberts course, Flying Lessons, I’ve been inspired to take action on my dream of becoming a surface pattern designer. This class was HIGHLY recommended by several new friends from Kelly’s class. I’m so excited to learn everything there is to know about pattern design and this sounds like the perfect class for me!
Thanks for the opportunity and I can’t wait for November 12!

hi, id love to win a place on this course because i feel id really benefit from all the knowledge and skills available. i have always wanted to become a textile designer, frequently entering into tigerprint briefs and recently coming runner up. but i feel i need more knowledge, on using colour, building a pattern, building up a collection that i can then use to promote myself and attain a job that i would really love to do day in, day out, rather than working part time in a factory. i’d really love to do this course to get back into drawing and designing again and really find out my signature style as its something i’ve struggled with a long time. i’d also really enjoy to be part of the whole designing community and meet as many new people as i could for friends but also for critiques and the sharing of design ideas. i’d also really like to learn about all the important business side of the industry, protecting my work and how to professionally promote myself, not really knowing where to start. it could really change my life. thanks.

Hello, this module looks amazing. One of my colleagues has been studying this & I have been admiring her work ever since. I am a printmaker and I would love this opportunity to amp up my pattern making skills. I draw a lot and sometimes I need some help with mixing up my media. I would love to win this competition sooooo much.
Kathleen Arthurs, New Zealand
ah, the course sounds VERY interesting and i would love the chance to do it! im a fine art graduate and all round crafter, but im finding it SO HARD to get an arty job at the moment and am making jewellery and doing crafts to let my creativeness out! im always drawing/doodling too so i think this would be a great way to use some of the doodles/patterns ive already got and create some new ones!
thanx! x

I am a designer, artist, and holding MBA degree. Just graduated and about to start my business. This course fits my current need, it will give me the push I need to be fully knowledge about what I am about to do. Hope I can win that cause I can’t afford it at this time..

I am originally from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia but living in Mankato, MN, USA for the last three years and probably the next three years as well
Colour + pattern + business is my past, present and future.
A little extra professional tuition would go a long, long way.

I would love to win a place on this course as I’ve seen so many beautiful designs that inspire my heart and soul and love of textiles and design. I have a degree in art and design and main disciplines of ceramics and textiles I handprints my own wallpaper designs and printed vast amounts of my own surface patterns some are still waiting to be finished and developed. Due to the recession it has been hard to find work in the industry due to the amount of jobs that are available and I am working in an office for a logistics company.. I don’t let that stop me creatively I have completed along side that 2 years voluntary experience for a art charity and mentor students as well as raise funds through events and courses. It has lead me to train in a course to be a teacher for adults and I recently in August qualified. I am on a exciting journey to pursue my dreams and become a teacher of art and design.. I am currently on a ceramics refresher course for 10 weeks but want to teach some textiles also and feel I missed out on some of the technical aspects on my degree.. It would be so exciting to see some of my designs come to life and create new ones with a view to sharing my knowledge with students and users and would be so great for my new career into teaching. Thanks for reading

I would love to clarify and strengthen my voice as an artist. I have been designing and illustrating for clients and businesses for years and am always bowing to their desires and needs. I have been able to be a creative chameleon and while this has been a lot of fun and truly expanded my skills, i have trouble discerning the form of my own style that answers only to inspiration and that inner light of creativity.
this course seems so amazing and i would love to find myself in this supportive, creative, and illuminating community. what you do is wonderful! thank you for the generosity of this offer. it is very heart-warming.
good luck everyone!

I would be honored to win a place in your course,The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design. I have started following your blog and reading the magazine, Moyo, which I love. I am a huge fan of Jessica Swift and Rachel Taylor. I am an artist, illustrator and graphic designer, but as of yet, not making a living out of it. I would love to learn more about the ins and outs of licensing, creating patterns, and the business of running an art business. I have the Adobe Creative Suite programs needed for the course. I have the drafting and design skills to really flourish and get everything I can out of this course. Please consider me for this contest. I promise I won’t disappoint! Thank you for offering this free give away.
Sincerely,

Hello, Thank you so much for all of the inspiration. I am a mommy and a freelance illustrator also working a full time job. I dream non stop of being able to see my watercolor paintings turn to pattern and print. There is so much to learn. I paint all of the time but am so unsure of which elements to bring in to the pattern and exactly how. I would love to join your class and gain the skills to make my greatest dream come true. I’ll never give up! I want to be a full time create with my entire heart and soul.
Thanks so much,

Every day I dream of becoming a successful designer, since starting a family 9 months ago I have realised the importance of doing what my heart tells me . Each day I want to get a step closer to my dream and find transformation not only in achieving my dreams but also the creative process of manifesting them. Any help appreciated

A lady once described me as a “Warrior…even in the toughest of times” and I can tell you that I have proven this time and again on a personal and professional level.
I have had to work hard for everything in my life having come from a humble background with little support and as such, have always longed for a Mentor to encourage, teach and guide me but never known how to find one. As a Graphic Designer, I have already dipped my toes in the pool of Surface Design but still need to hone my craft and learn more to get me on the right track to further develop my skills, establish a signature style, market my designs and minimise the crises of faith that strike me from time to time.
This course would be a fantastic stepping stone to the rest of my creative life so thank you for this opportunity.

Hello,
I’m Sandrine from Paris!
I’m a full part job employee (Internet) but truying to take a disponibility with my job for a course of textile design in february. Not sure at all that they would accept me to stop working, I’l would be really happy to join your course.
It’s a good option for me as I can work from home or why not lunch time every day!
I have a passion of motifs, design, photography, travels that inspire me (Japan and Amsterdam especially).
I draw on my own even if I have no skills about, I like to explore different technics of art like sewing, painting, screen printing (I took 3 courses recently and I really really have a passion with it!)…
And my dream is to build my own fashion brand with the patterns I draw!
My son and my husband are really confident with me and encourage me to the success.
I hope that you will help me to climb the first steps
Your sinceraly,
Sandrine

Also, my blog is not up to date then I prefer not showing it at this time.
In 2008 I had to quit my job due to a rare brain condition and became a self employed artist in 2010 – I’m self taught and can already see how much my work has improved and how much I’ve learnt since I started out. I’ve recently started introducing pattern designs to my portfolio for stationery/pocket mirrors etc.. to expand my product range. I don’t have much knowledge of how to turn my original drawings into clean patterns which can be used on a range of products, I feel that I need to learn this to move my business forward to where I want it to be in 12 months time. I would also like to utilise more patterns in my portrait backgrounds to tie all my products together and create a cohesive collection.
A friend recently took this course and it comes highly recommended!
Laura, UK
How exciting! I’m passionate about patterns, colour and design. Does that translate to a surface pattern designer…I’m not sure but would sure like to try! Perhaps with all the help on offer I can do this. I am currently on maternity leave and would love the chance to do something creative.
Fingers crossed!!
Jaime Russell, Australia
Challenge accepted! Not doing what I love is making me really anxious. Would like to be inspired, encouraged and ready to take on the world one pattern at a time.
Kim Richardson UK
I would love to win this! I studied graphic design at university but am actually now more interested in surface design so this would be a great motivation for me to learn more about pattern and colour.
Emily, UK
Wow! What an opportunity, my friend completed the three modules earlier this year. We went to College together in the late 1980′s to learn Surface Pattern Design, without a single computer, only gouache and watercolour, lightbox, tracing paper. Designing was so different then. The recession hit and I had to grab any job I could. After seeing my friend’s design work from completing the modules, I am amazed at what my friend has achieved through this course – her work is very competitive now and she has great confidence and belief in this course. I have been secretly jealous of her talents now, and know that it is in me to succeed in my design work.
After being unemployed for years, I have finally got myself a part time job doing Art Therapy, I want to push myself in my creativity and get back to my roots in Surface Design. I am finally getting my own PC where I can turn out my designs without having to share the PC with my family. It would be an amazing achievement to learn and take part in Module one if I am successful… If not, my piggy bank is saving up for Module 1 in April 2013!
Love your work, passion, encouragement and online mag Moyo, full of inspiritation, I would just love some professional guidance and challenges now!
Many thanks for offering this competition
Best wishes
Carolann Hatt, United Kingdom
I have been eyeing this course for awhile and would love to take it! But, I’m a little low on funds these days. I have been an illustrator for several years and have finally realized my favorite part of illustrating are all the patterns and colors more than even the subjects. I’ve created some fabric design, but I’m self taught and not as efficient as I’d like to be. I need to learn to loosen up and get over some fears about creating art. I love Photoshop, but would like to feel comfortable in Adobe Illustrator also and would love to learn the most up to date techniques and secrets of the trade. It is my goal to see my work on all kinds of products! I hope to get this opportunity.
Janet Broxon, USA
After working with young people in art education for over 30 years, I now find myself evaluating my own creative practice and would very much enjoy the focus and direction of this exciting and inspiring course. You are never too old to learn!
Louise Findlay UK
I’ve been doubting whether to subscribe to one of the modules since I’ve stumbled upon this website a couple of days ago. This would be such a great opportunity for me! Since I’ve graduated in Textile Design, Art school 2007, I’ve been on the search for the right job. A couple of months ago I’ve given up my own design studio (designing interior products and accessories, all made by hand) and decided I’d much more love to work on a freelance (project) basis and really make a living out of being creative. (without the huge amount of material-investment and time-consuming handmade products)
I think working as a surface pattern designer on a freelance basis would work perfect for me, but I just need some extra tips and tricks and a refreshed portfolio to get me there…. please pick me!
Tessa de Guytenaer, The Hague, The Netherlands
If I am meant to win this, I know I will. I have been making art since childhood and through a series of unfortunate events as it were, have never been able to make a real go of it as a career. Every day of every year, I try to find ways to take a step closer and this course would really propel me! I have been interested in surface design for some time and this course would be an excellent addition to my recent retraining in graphic design as well. A real compliment. Not to mention, winning is really the only way I could do it as my finances are in shambles. There is really nothing else out there quite like what you offer and I would be honored to study with you!
Susan Sanelli Hammack
I have been following the progression of this course since I discovered it earlier this year, it looks amazing! As I was stuck in a sales and marketing job I felt that if I started doing what I loved again it would make my day job even less appealing. I have just left this job role to start my first official design job and would love to refresh my skills and start thinking like a designer again.
Good luck to everyone xx
Victoria Butler, UK
I am a woman of mature years who has always, like most women, put her family and responsibilities first whilst sacrificing my own opportunities. Over three years ago I decided that I had enough of working in dead-end jobs with no job satisfaction, (a round peg in a square hole). So I took the brave step to study full time, embarking on a three-year textile degree course to start my life again, with the naive thought that it would change my life.
However despite all my hard work, I find like most graduates, I cannot find work in my chosen field. You find yourself in a trap of not having the work experience to apply for related jobs, and living in a remote environment just adds to the problem.
I am not a confident person, and not the most talented artist, but I am focused and disciplined and hope with your help and a fresh approach, that I can learn the creative secrets of successful surface patterning.
My ambition is to create well-balanced pattern repeats that look spontaneous. To learn how to be more discerning in my color palette choice, and develop a signature style that has appeal, transforming an item into a desirable offering.
I believe that your inspiring informative course will provide the tools that I need to embrace a new fulfilling creative career. Thank you.
Monica Pothecary
I graduated back in 1997, in contemporary crafts and design my specialist areas being textiles and embroidery.
Back then there weren’t the opportunities that are available to graduates now.
I took a job in an office and didn’t pursue my dreams.
15 years later, I left and decided to give textiles and design another go.
I’ve been working hard to do this for the past year and I would love to join your course as I feel I have alot to catch up on and learn.
Carmel Lomax, UK
Thanks for the chance to win a spot in the course!
I’ve always been enamored by pattern design and love to create artwork in various styles. Although I’ve learned some of the technical bits of how to create a repeating pattern, I’m definitely lacking in the arena of color and creating a cohesive collection. It’s one thing to understand repeat patterns, but another to put it all together and create a cohesive collection. I’m also interested in turning mixed media elements into a pattern! Mentorship and community is something I’m definitely looking for and I think the course would fill in a lot of the holes of my surface pattern “education.”
Linda from Italy
I have always loved surface pattern design but due to unforeseen circumstances have never had the chance to do it for a living. I am currently unemployed and really need to re-discover my passion for design. I have kept an eye on your students progress on your course and would love love love to experience it for myself. A chance like this would give me a kick up the backside that I truly need. Thank you for considering me.
Helen Gauntlett, UK
Hi. If I were given the opportunity to join this course, it would help me achieve some really important personal and professional goals. Two years ago, I decided to pursue a creative career and this led to surface pattern design. My career change has been a massive leap of faith, a big lifestyle change and whilst mostly exciting it can be daunting: on my own, I have been developing the skills needed for surface pattern design from various books, and you tube tutorials but I miss the experience of learning with like-minded students and structured learning with an experienced tutor! Your course would fill those voids perfectly and I would relish learning with others. I would also benefit from the elements of the course that cover how to build a pattern, how to turn mixed media paintings into patterns and the insider tricks and tips Rachel Taylor has to offer. Your course would allow me to indulge my love of colour, pattern and surface decoration in a constructive and informed way and it would really help to take my skills on a stage. I’m fortunate in that I trained as a fine artist so I have excellent drawing skills as well as lots of ideas and drawings for patterns that I would like to explore on the course.
Teresa Kirk, UK
I love print, pattern and illustration, and I’m hoping / saving to sign up to the course next year. When looking for a course that was right for me, I couldn’t have found one that was more perfect, inspiring and motivating. I’ve even started to plan ahead and continuously try to keep up to date with the latest surface pattern trends. I have followed Rachael Taylor for the past few years and her success has inspired me to develop my own creative style with hope that one day people might actually buy my work. It’s my ultimate dream to develop my own brand- have my designs recognised and sold worldwide. I believe that everyone should be able to ‘do what you love’ and feel that the course will help me get one step further to following my dream. Thanks for considering me- Rebecca Allred, Manchester UK
OMG……This is one course I am dreaming about doing, to have this opportunity to be win a chance. I want to do this so so smuch, I am working hard to change my career after years of bringing home the bacon to pay the mortgage and get the kids old enough to look after themselves I feel this is my time now, I work hard by day as a sales administrator for an engineering company and by night I morph into a born again graphic designer/illustrator my dream is to creat designs and illustrations for cards fabrics wrapping paper you name it, to be licensed to within an inch of my life, I want to walk into shops and see my creations and think with a little smug smile that “i did that”….pick me pick me pick me me me me me

Hello Rachael & Beth!
I know lots and lots of people have already entered but hopefully little old me will stand out!
I recently went freelance after working as part of an inhouse design team in a printers. I just felt I had to leave because I was getting pretty stifled with the same old design everyday. Everything I was doing was just having to be churned out and inspiration in a dull office is ZERO! I needed the freedom to grow creatively and get back to the passionate designer I was so I risked it all and followed my heart.
Now I’m working for myself I get to draw every day and I’ve started to work on my own product range but I’m getting a bit stuck. I think I need YOU! I would absolutely LOVE to join your e-course. I’ve watched it from afar for a wee while now just dreaming about saving enough money to go on it! I’ve even looked for funding with no success
The structure of the course sounds ideal and module one is exactly what I need. I don’t want to sound like a sook but I really do look up to both of you and your careers. I know I will work just as hard as so hopefully I will have even a little bit of the same success.
I know I would do great on the course and I hope you can see the potential in me too. Please have a look on my site, I’d love your feedback!
Sarah Clark
I’ve had my eyes on this class for the longest time, so this is an incredible opportunity. I’m now going to art school for 1 year and we are supposed to choose a project/theme, and I’m diving in to the word of pattern designing. But there are no teachers here that are specialized in pattern design, and I’m starting to feel a bit lost and don’t know where to begin. I really need guidance, and I know that “The Art and Business of Surface Pattern Design” would help me out tremendously. Hoping for luck!
Anna Landerholm, Sweden
I would really love to win this module. I’m an artist and jewellery designer and I’m passionate about developing my artwork for use in surface designs for textiles and more. I think this course would be perfect for me at the moment as it would give me the focus and support to channel my creativity. I’m a little low on funds at the moment so this would really help out as I’m definitely planning to do the full course
many thank for this opportunity
warm regards

I would love to win this class! I’ve moved twice in the past year due to my husband’s job transfers. I’ve had to leave my job of 20 years as an art teacher for pre- k through college. My new career needs to be one that can move with me and this would be perfect. I recently took flying lessons with Kelly Rae Roberts and feel this is the perfect follow up!!!

It is very generous of you to offer a free course to someone. If I won it, I would use the information to further develop my involvement in the licensing industry of which I am already a part of as a licensing artist with my animal art. I have dabbled in creating some patterns using my existing art and have had one company use a few of my designs for some fabric but I believe that I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of this industry. I could use some better direction and this course looks like it would be a good fit for me. There is so much more to learn! I would be happy to promote your courses also to my artist friends and to the students at our local college of which I am the chair for the art and design fundamentals course. Some of the students would find this information very useful as they launch out into their careers. I found your web site very encouraging. Thank you for your encouragment in general! Have a great day!

Well well a very quick scan over these entries shows me how many deserving people are fighting for this place! I can’t say I deserve it any more than anyone else, all I can do is write a little bit about me and hope by some wild stroke of luck you pick me!
I see in 2D, my friends tease me about my obsession with triangles. I eat bagels for breakfast just because of their shape. I have a problem. I have to constantly battle with myself to resist the temptation to tear down beautifully patterned curtains (sound of music style) and skip giddily through the streets. But I don’t know where to start, I am starving for feedback and a little direction. Please help me before my head explodes and splatters half developed ideas all over this computer screen. No one wants to clear up that mess of colour.
I have a background in illustration, but many mornings spent obsessively checking print and pattern blog was my first clue that surface pattern design was for me. Also I keep drawing fish. I think it is because I have been floundering like a fish out of water since graduating. Please help me fit myself (and all the fish sketches) into the world of pattern design.
Finally just wanted to say that I love how you are supporting aspiring designers through this e-course and by creating Moyo. You have inspired me and I am sure many others to do what we love without compromise. With the guidance of this course I know I will gain the confidence I need to create beautiful things and pursue my dream career.
Thank you for your consideration, the opportunity and for creating all those feel good designs!
