When does an idea stop being just an idea?

When do ideas morph from a gentle puff of a thought to a whisper of an idea, to a fluffy ball of a concept, to a living, breathing thing?

Is it at the moment they take shape as words scribbled into a notebook? The moment they are spoken out loud? The point they are added to the to-do list? The day we actually do them?

This is something I have pondered before, but it keeps coming back to me.

The other day I was going through my journal from the first month we were here in Japan, and IĀ noticed that many of the random scribblings have actually become things I have done, places I have been, progress I’ve made.

This happens to me a lot, and it has probably happened to you too. I am not talking about affirmations or goals or even dreamsĀ here (as they are a whole other wonderful thing), but the simple act of making a note about something you thought of (however random) and then forgetting about it, only to reflect some time later and see what it has become. Why not try it?
