Beth Kempton, Founder of Do What You Love

Beth Kempton is a wanderer, an adventurer, and a seeker of beauty. Her life story is a catalogue of wild and crazy experiences that she wouldn’t believe if she hadn’t been there herself—such as hosting her own TV show (in Japan!), travelling on a private jet with the world’s most famous football team, or surviving falling off a cliff on a quad bike.

But these things didn’t come about because of any kind of special privilege or personal wealth. They happened because Beth followed her intuition, made bold choices, and sought out freedom every step of the way. And sometimes she just got lucky.

As a result, Beth has been fortunate enough to have lived, worked, and travelled in 50+ countries on every continent. In amongst all of that, she has also been blessed with the opportunity to work with UN agencies, global brands, and NGOs all over the world, advising on corporate social responsibility, instigating projects that have raised over $10 million for charity, and earning a Master’s degree in Japanese.

And that was all before she founded Do What You Love, on the back of a major setback that opened her eyes to the way the world really works. Beth is also co-founder of MakeArtThatSells.com and MakeItInDesign.com, both of which have helped thousands of artists and designers launch and grow professional creative careers through innovative online courses and a host of free resources. She is also co-founder of online design magazine MOYO, which has had over 2.5 million views on Issuu.com.

Beth believes that ‘waiting for the weekend’ is no way to live your life — or design your career. And she’s living proof that there’s another option — one where the way that you feel about your work is just as important as the salary you take home.

Beth is the author of Freedom Seeker: Live more. Worry less. Do what you love.’ (Hay House), a book about discovering who you really are, what you really want, and how to fly free whatever life sends your way. She often talks to audiences large and small about what freedom really means, and how to find it in your life.

Not long ago, Beth was selected by Marie Claire magazine as one of the UK’s 16 most exciting young female entrepreneurs, and has previously been nominated for Digital Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and Kindred Spirit Magazine Mind Body Spirit Blogger of the Year.

She is a Founding Advisory Panel member of Beyond Sport, founded by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to bring together the best sport-led social innovators with global leaders to address sport’s role in driving positive social change.

Beth has a slight obsession with washi tape and beautiful paper, and harbours a secret dream to launch her own stationery line. She’s usually holding a cup of milky tea in one hand and a nibble of chocolate in the other. She’s also a wife, and a mother of two sweet girls.

The most important thing you need to know about Beth? She’s very, very good at doing what she loves.

And more than anything else in the world, she wants to help you figure out what you love, commit to that love, and make it your life.

Paul’s column: Life According to Mr K

Paul2

Paul is a husband, a father and a sport and film enthusiast. After spending 12 years working in civil engineering and construction, Paul realised that the path he was on was no longer a path that he loved.

Leaving behind his “stable job” to join his wife’s company wasn’t an easy decision, but he knows it was absolutely the right one.

These days, Paul looks after the strategic development, runs the back-end operations here at Do What You Love — keeping the bills paid, keeping the website up and running, and keeping the team happy.

When he’s not scanning a computer screen, Paul gets to enjoy his offline passions: making up stories for his baby daughters, Sienna and Maia, ducking out for a midday run, studying Japanese or sketching out new architectural designs — he’s currently working on a “fantasy home” for his family and a Do What You Love retreat centre.

Paul’s idea of a “perfect day” would be “dreaming up new plans and figuring out how to make them come true.”

He hopes that Do What You Love gives YOU the tools, inspiration and courage to create thousands of your own “perfect days,” too.

He documents his journey and decision making process in his regular blog column Life According to Mr. K — a guy’s view on doing what you love.

“I really believe the world would be a better place if more of us were doing what we love. I hope the work we do here at “Do What You Love ” will help inspire you to make changes to chase your dreams.

I have been where you are – a little lost and confused about how I can find more fulfillment in my life whilst ensuring I meet my responsibilities. I had a good career but it just wasn’t me! I wanted to wake up and be excited about every day. I was about to become a husband and father and I didn’t want to miss a moment. But what else was there? What could I do? I discovered that there were so many different lives waiting for me to live. I just had to choose.

I am sure a little bit of courage will be required along the way but we are here to help and with a growing movement forming worldwide you will find the support you need, even if it is in the most unlikely of places. You just need to choose how you want to live yours.”

“Having my son, Zack, made me realise that if I’m going to encourage him to chase his wildest dreams I better fully go after mine. Working for Do What You Love is the next exciting step towards creating the life I imagine. Not only am I free to work around my wonderful little family, I get to interview the most inspirational people, write to my heart’s content, and best of all, help people realise their dreams. Louise is an artist with a passion for colour, nature and energy. She lives by the sea in Spain with a view of Gibraltar rock, tiny fishing boats and the Morrocan coastline. Her latest passion project was co-writing Mandala for the Inspired Artist: Working with paint, paper, and texture to create expressive mandala art. In her own words…

“I can honestly say I am doing what I love everyday which includes being creative, walking barefoot in the sand at sunrise, running my own workshops and being part of the DWYL team. Making time to do something I love everyday and learning new things is what keeps me smiling and motivated. I am currently studying Color Therapy and am on a mission to help others learn about the power of colour to create their own colour story in life. I also have a secret desire to learn to play the Mandolin.”

Louise spent eight years in the USA and it was there in 2009, she picked up a paintbrush again, to pursue a life full of more creativity and freedom, leaving behind a corporate job with a windowless office. Soon after, she met Beth at an art retreat and knew it was a serendipitous meeting.

“I have always believed that everything is connected and all the people I meet, the roads I travel and experiences I have, are there for a reason.  By each of us, doing what we love, we will creative positive energy in the world and attract kindreds to assist us on our unique journeys. I am so thrilled to be part of the DWYL team – part of something I truly believe in.”
