Includes classroom access until October 31, 2027

WHAT WILL WE DO IN THE CLASS?

We will go deep, spill words with ease, share fearlessly, and learn how to build an audience of dedicated Substack readers who cannot wait to read what we have written.

You will come away from Ink + Flame with a number of key pieces for your Substack, and a clear plan of how you will use the platform to nurture your writing life.

The carefully designed curriculum will help you alchemise all you have experienced into potent words to share with the world, and showing you how you can be a light in the darkness for others, whatever you write about.

WHAT IMPACT WILL IT HAVE?

By the end of the seven-week live immersion you will:

  • understand your personal calling as a writer
  • have kindled your inner flame, and ignited your creativity
  • have a burning desire to share your words with the world
  • understand who you are writing for
  • have a better understand of how Substack can play a role in expanding your readership
  • feel confident in growing, and potentially monetising, your Substack
  • be part of an intimate group of writers who will offer you accountability and community as you step fully into your writing life

HOW IT WORKS

The class is structured in such a way that it is potent and powerful without being overwhelming. Here’s how it works:

  • {INK} MONDAYS – We spill words from the heart without editing between brain and page
  • {FLAME} WEDNESDAYS – We shape those words using a variety of editing techniques
  • {ALCHEMY} FRIDAYS – We share our words in order to practice bravery

In addition, we have WEEKLY TWO-HOUR LIVE WRITING CIRCLES and A STRUCTURED APPROACH TO THRIVING ON SUBSTACK, built into the course.

Days and times of the live sessions will vary to accommodate as many time zones and schedules as possible. The timings of the lives will be announced no later than two weeks in advance of the class, and if you cannot join live you will be able to watch a replay.

NOTE: If you are triggered by terms relating to fire, I would recommend that you consider taking one of my alternative writing immersions, Life+Time or River of Words, instead.

ANNOUNCING THREE FANTASTIC GUEST TEACHERS!

I am thrilled to share that I will be joined by three fantastic guest teachers in Ink + Flame.

  • Novelist HOLLY RINGLAND will be teaching an extraordinary workshop on writing what burns in us, without being engulfed by the fear. Holly’s novels are some of the most gorgeously crafted stories I have ever read. Her first book The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart was made into an Amazon Prime series starring Sigourney Weaver and voted as one of the Top 100 Novels of the 21st Century by fellow Australians. She has also written The Seven Skins of Esther Wilding and The House that Joy Built (non-fiction), and has recently signed a deal for another THREE books!
  • Non-fiction author KERRI NI DOCHARTAIGH will be offering a beautiful workshop on writing memory. Kerri is the author of the exquisite books Thin Places (shortlisted for The Wainwright Prize) and Cacophony of Bone, two books I keep near my desk at all times.
  • Substack educator CLAIRE VENUS will be sharing her invaluable advice for building a community from zero on Substack. Claire is one of the most generous souls I have encountered since joining Substack. She is also co-author of How to Build a World Class Substack, which she self-published after a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign.

I hope you love learning from these brilliant women.

FAQ

What is the difference between your three live writing immersions Ink + Flame, Life + Time and River of Words? Great question! All three are structured in a similar way, with an initial lesson and spilling invitation on the Monday, a further lesson and shaping (editing) exercise on the Wednesday, and then an invitation to share on the Friday. All three are deep dive writing immersions which can be taken in any order. Indeed, if you sign up for all three, you will be setting yourself up for an incredible year of writing. The main difference is the additional thread running through each class as follows:

  • Ink + Flame (which will run live from January 2026) has a bonus thread focused on growing your audience specifically for Substack (or your blog or other self-publishing channel)
  • Life + Time (which will run live from September 2026) has a bonus thread focused on monetising your writing and building a sustainable, satisfying creative career
  • River of Words (which is self-paced and available anytime) has a bonus thread focused on platform building (i.e. building an audience for your writing, regardless of channel)

I am a beginner writer. Is this class for me? All are welcome, regardless of level. If you are at the beginning of your writing journey, you have the benefit of a clean slate and the opportunity to build exactly the kind of writing career you want. If you have some experience, you have a foundation to build on. Both are great. The class exercises will challenge and stretch you in the best of ways, whatever level of writing experience you have.

Is there a dedicated community for this class? Yes, we have a private class community hosted on Facebook. Please note this is the only way to ask questions to Beth during the class. We cannot offer alternatives to anyone who chooses not to be on Facebook. Please note the community aspect of the class is encouraged but entirely optional, and the course content is delivered via our private website which does not require access to Facebook.

How much time will the class take? It is hard to say because it really depends on how much time and attention you can give it! If you are able to commit 4-6 hours a week you will see a significant shift in your writing.

When will the live writing circles take place? The dates and times for our live sessions will be confirmed no later than January 12, 2026. From week to week the days and times of these Live Writing Circles will vary to accommodate as many time zones as possible. If you cannot join live you will be able to access a replay, so please don’t worry.

What if I cannot attend the live writing circles? Please don’t worry, the class is very flexible. All live writing circles are recorded and shared within 48 hours of the session so you can catch up in your own time. In addition to our weekly two-hour live writing circles, we have lessons released on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but you don’t have to be online at a certain time to access these. You can just log in whenever suits you. We do have a weekly deadline of Friday for sharing one piece from that week, but this is simply a friendly guideline to encourage you to finish your work.

Can I pay in instalments? Yes, you are welcome to spread your investment in the class over several payments at no extra cost. To do this, instead of ‘Buy Now’, please click ‘Pay Deposit’ above.

Do you offer scholarships? Due to Beth’s hands-on involvement in this class, places are strictly limited so we are not able to offer any scholarships for Ink + Flame. However we do offer various classes and resources to make writing as accessible as possible. These are free to everyone, including the Winter Writing Sanctuary which you would be welcome to join.

How long will I have access to the classroom? If you register for the 2026 edition of Ink + Flame, you will have access to all the content until October 31, 2027, so you will have plenty of time to complete everything. (Please note we do not offer lifetime access for any of our classes.) The private class community for Ink + Flame will remain open indefinitely beyond the class (for as long as people are active in it).
