As winter draws in at the end of another tumultuous year, you are invited to come and seek refuge in the Winter Writing Sanctuary, a seven-day online writing course to soothe the mind and nourish the soul, led by bestselling author Beth Kempton. Class runs Monday December 29 2025- Sunday January 4 2026 so we can write through that precious time between Christmas and New Year and cross the threshold of the year together.

This short (but very inspiring) online class will be a beacon in the darkest season, offering an outlet for all you have been carrying, as well as a release after the chaos, stress and emotional pressure of the holidays. It includes a live writing session where you can write alongside others from around the world. This is the sixth year I am offering the Winter Writing Sanctuary, which has become a beloved end-of-year tradition for me and thousands of people across the world. *Note: I am based in England where winter is dark, wet and cosy, but of course you are welcome to join from anywhere.

ABOUT YOUR GUIDE

This course is led by Beth Kempton, a bestselling self-help author and writer mentor, whose six non-fiction books have been translated into nearly 30 languages and recommended by the likes of TIME Magazine, British Vogue, the Sunday Times and Psychologies. She is also a qualified yoga teacher and Reiki Master, trained in the Japanese tradition in Tokyo.

FAQ

There is no such thing as a free lunch. What’s the catch? There is no catch. This is offered for free as a thank you to my amazing community, and with the intention of making writing as accessible as possible. I am aware that some of my other classes are not within some budgets, and this is my way of ensuring that at least once a year, anyone who wants to be inspired can write with me. You can see from some of the many testimonials we have received from past participants of the Sanctuary, that this is a carefully crafted course, offered with love. Indeed last year one of our students wrote in to say that we had taught her to trust again, because the Sanctuary was genuinely free with no catch.

I will be away for some of the time. Does that matter? Not at all! The daily lessons will be released into the classroom at 5am UK time but you do not need to be online at that time. You can log in whenever suits you. We do have one live writing circle on Sunday January 4 at 7pm UK time, but if you cannot join for any reason you will be able to enjoy a replay afterwards.

I haven’t written anything for years. Is this class for me? Yes, absolutely! It’s a wonderful way to fall back in love with writing. It’s all about spilling words from your head and heart, rather than learning any specific writing technique. There is no critique in this course, so you can enjoy a gentle, encouraging and inspiring experience.

How much time will the class take? It depends how long you spend on it! If you have an hour a day, that will make it a meaningful experience for you (and you don’t need to keep up with the ‘pace’ of class – you can do the lessons at whatever pace suits you.

How long will I have access to the classroom? Until October 31, 2026

Does this class have a dedicated community space? In earlier years I have offered a free Facebook group for the Winter Writing Sanctuary, but since it has grown in popularity (with more than 12,000 registrants last year!) it became unmanageable for me, especially given the timing of the class between Christmas and New Year, when I also need quiet space and time with my family. It was also overwhelming for a number of participants.

As a result, last year I took the decision not to offer a free community space for this class. Instead, if you want to connect with other writers and Sanctuary participants, you are invited to join SoulCircle, my beautiful private writing community on Substack, where we share our work from the Sanctuary each day during the seven days of the live class.

SoulCircle is a low-cost paid membership which offers year-round writing inspiration and support, with bi-seasonal live writing circles, twice-yearly virtual retreats, quarterly Q&A and more.
