An Update From Do What You Love HQ – April ’16

dwylhq

I sat down to write this month’s update and whilst considering what to tell you about – I’ll get to that soon – I glanced at my calendar. It read April 16. Three years ago to the day since I started with Do What You Love.

I had just returned from my honeymoon and the magic and romance of Tuscany was fast being replaced by one very real and overriding thought:

“Was it really a good idea to give up 12 years of a good career… especially now?”

Not only was the world trying to come to terms with the worst global recession in recent history, we were about to start our new life as a family. Is there a bigger adventure? And the main security we had, I had discarded without remorse. The reality now was that our immediate future was a complete unknown and our family’s wellbeing was in the hands of a fairly whimsical concept – Do What You Love.

Had I been completely selfish, foolish and irresponsible?

The answer was yes, no and no. Yes, I had been selfish in wanting to better my life, I just didn’t feel like I could be the best husband, father and person I could be until I made some changes – and some pretty drastic ones at that.

No, it certainly didn’t feel foolish. We had discussed it at length and everything in my body was telling me it was the right thing to do. And while the decision was proving to be a little scary, it never felt irresponsible. My motivation was clear, even if my plan was vague at best. Most importantly of all it had been a joint decision; a move that Beth and I both wanted, and that felt right.

On Monday, April 16 I started with Do What You Love. I didn’t really have any idea about the world online, or how I would initially fit in, but I did know how to organize, communicate and problem-solve. If the construction industry had taught me anything it was that I had these skills in abundance.

I also knew that I had every confidence in my wife when she told me that the work we would do together would be life-changing. She was right. And the beauty of it was that it wasn’t just going to change our lives.

Joining Do What You Love with Beth proved to me that living a more intuitive, rewarding and soulful life would ultimately open doors and present more amazing opportunities than we could have ever imagined. Both for our family, and for our business.

One of those amazing opportunities is upon us right now. Beth is deep in book writing mode and it is great seeing her enjoy every moment, even though it is a huge job. She wears the responsibility of creating such a powerful book very gracefully. From the snippets I have read so far it is going to be transformative to say the least.

Oh, and we bought a VW California. Bring on the adventures, baby!

Thought of the moment

The last few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions. I have a very close circle of friends who I consider to be family. We all gathered back home recently to celebrate the marriage of one of my best friends to a great girl. It really was an amazing day, full of happiness and hope for the future.

However, only a few hours later one of our other friends was fighting for his life. He is still fighting. All my thoughts are with him, his wife and daughter. To say we have all been devastated by the news would be an understatement.

I love you mate. Please keep fighting buddy.

We all know our health and that of our closest friends and family is paramount. However, until it becomes an issue we often take it for granted and don’t take care of ourselves anywhere nearly as well as we could.

Please don’t let devastating news or a tragic event be your wake up call to start living the life you really want.

How can you start Doing What You Love today?

Until next time…

Mr K
