Permission granted

permission 550px

When we are children we are taught to ask our parents permission to stay up late, get down from the table, or invite a friend for tea.  We are taught to politely ask permission to do the things we want to do, or to hang out with the people we find interesting.

When we grow up, in theory we can do as we like. But the truth is, we often stay stuck in that mode of waiting for someone else’s permission to follow our dreams. Our lives get meshed with others’ lives, and there are implications of how we spend our time and our money.

But sometimes those around us don’t support our dreams, so if we wait for their permission, we’ll wait forever.

Sometimes they are too busy to notice we want it. Or maybe they just aren’t listening.

And sometimes, we haven’t actually asked.

But the truth is, the only permission you need is your own.

You need to let yourself be proud of who you are, permit yourself to make rules that work for you, and tell yourself it’s OK to follow your heart, whatever it takes.
