Ponder this
If we let it, life rushes past. We get caught up in to-do lists, obligations, other people’s deadlines. Sometimes it seems as if we wear ‘busyness’ as a badge of honour. But just being ‘busy’, being in constant motion, can blow up a cloud of dust which obscures the real view – the view of life in each moment. If you keep on running in the direction you are heading you may end somewhere you don’t want to be, fast. Sometimes we all just need to slow down, breathe deeply and take it all in.
Try this
• Get up 15 minutes earlier so you don’t rush through the start of your day.
• Be conscious of your movements. As you travel from place to place today, slow down your pace. Halve it if you can. Leave the car behind and walk if possible.
• Slow down your pace of work. Move half of your to-do list to another day (or take a day off). Move gently through each task. Your worth as a human being is not measured in on your hourly output of emails.
• Pause for a moment – before you rush into a conversation, run out the door, or switch on the TV. Breathe deeply. Feels good doesn’t it? Do it often.
• Schedule in time to retreat from your daily life. Whether it is for 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 days, plan to disconnect and take yourself somewhere peaceful. It is really important you don’t feel guilty about this. If you don’t invest time to be alone with your thoughts, ideas and plans, they will only ever be in your head.
